The Index Seminum is a list of seeds collected in the Hanbury Botanical Gardens and offered for free exchange to other gardens.
The exchange activity, that begun in 1883, is still continuing; the annual catalog is sent to about 600 public institutions around the world (university gardens, research and acclimatization centers , arboretums, alpine gardens, national parks, nature reserves, Faculty of Agriculture, technical schools).
he seeds offered are collected each year between May and November, cleaned manually, divided into packets and then sent to applicants.
The current catalog offers a selection of seeds of about 300 plant species growing in GBH.
